Become a calligraphy expert

Classes in calligraphy have been running at Lake Nite Learning for at least 25 years. This is my 23rd year of involvement.
My aim is to bring to new students the basics of calligraphy, beginning with the Roman script based on the carved letters on the Trajan column in Rome and then with this introduction students are able to move on to a variety of other scripts, ranging from the traditional ancient hands to modern hands.
Some scripts are more difficult than others and over the years I have also developed some scripts of my own, (Neuland lower case) as well as adapting others from a type-face, (Delphin 2, Neuland upper case).
I try to gauge what scripts I can research for further  study by a survey of students in the previous term; there is also a preference to look at each script for 2 consecutive terms so that students can get a good grasp of the lettering and then go on to do a more finished piece, and in many cases exhibit and sell their work.
I  also encourage students to participate in the project that is set for each term.
As both classes are for all levels I endeavor to tutor each student individually.
My classes have a great camaraderie with students lending and borrowing calligraphic equipment and advice, freely. Firm friendships are formed and there are many long-term students, including one who has been attending for 14 years.
Experience the beauty of calligraphy today.
